Ban the Bag Huddersfield

April 10, 2008

Kirklees Council want to make Kirklees a bag free area which is good news. The bad news is they don’t have the power to actually ban the bags. All they can do is say that bags are very bad things and promote voluntary individual action and ask people to stop using them

THERE IS A REAL LIFE PETITION AS WELL – i.e. one on paper . If you want a copy for all your friends, family and others to sign, please leave a comment and your e mail address will be sent to MYGs ( no one else will see it) and I will contact you

Ban the Bag London

April 10, 2008

Hello, I just wanted to draw your attention to a Bill currently in Parliament which, if passed, will bring about a ban on single-use shopping bags in London.

If you want to help, please go to http://www.londoncouncils.gov.uk/banthebag and email your MP asking them to support the Bill at its next reading.

This particular Bill will only apply in the capital, but if enough people demand action, it could well be rolled out nationally. All MPs – even if they are from outside London – will be allowed to vote on the Bill, so even if you are not from the capital, but still support what the Bill aims to achieve, you can still write to your MP to let them know.

This is the one of the best opportunities you have to influence a real piece of legislation that could result in single use shopping bags being banished from the UK. So if you feel strongly about this, please take the time to make yourself heard.

Thanks!

Chris
