Huddersfield Transition Town

February 16, 2009

Transition towns are planning a self sufficient future – in preparation for when the oil runs out. There is a transition town group in Huddersfield and they have just launched their own website which says it far better than I could.

Knitting

October 14, 2008

is great ….

But it takes so long I hear you cry…. well what you need is a knitting buddy to help you through the hard times when that scarf seems to going on for ever.

Huddersfield has two knitting groups that meet to share knitting stories.

There’s Yarn that meets at Cafe Evolution – the one by the park – more details forthcoming

Try the one that meets in the Oak Rooms Byram Arcade (you need to come in the back door) 6.00 pm till 8  every other Wednesday – check the calender for details.

For knitting you will need knitting needles and wool and perhaps a pattern - click here for stockists

The above are american bears knitted from recycled wood died with Kool Aid – I think thats some kind of drink…click on the image for more inspiration…

Lindley Methodist Church Green Group. We are a group of people (currently all ladies, but we’d like to change that!) trying to engage local church members in environmental issues – to make the connection between lifestyle and faith. Concern for the environment affects the way we operate in our own homes and in our Church building. At church – we now do a lot of recycling, and are currently working on changing our cleaning materials and paper products, and looking at ways of reducing energy usage. In our homes – we are coming towards the end of a project called “EcoTeams” which looks at our lifestyles (waste, water, shopping, travel, food, fuel etc) and has helped us to make a lot of changes in our lifestyles and find ways of being less wasteful. We meet about once a month, but it is not on a regular day. Anyone wanting info can ring me 01484 648405.

Freecycle

May 1, 2008

Huddersfield Freecycle® is open to all who want to “recycle” that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it’s a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you’re looking to acquire something yourself! Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate too!

One constraint: everything posted must be free. This network is brought to you by Freecycle®, a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills. Check out freecycle.org for other cities and info on the movement! E-mail huddersfieldfreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com for questions or improvement ideas!

And have fun with Freecycle®!
