Huddersfield Transition Town
February 16, 2009
Transition towns are planning a self sufficient future – in preparation for when the oil runs out. There is a transition town group in Huddersfield and they have just launched their own website which says it far better than I could.

Tuesday 22nd July starting at 19.30 – Brett Fletcher has arranged the Friends Meeting House, Church Street, Huddersfield HD1 4TR (“Google” it for how to get there)
David Browning will lead the early discussion by developing some of the ideas on food projects that we discussed at the last meeting and exploring the future potential of the Kirklees allotments strategy.
We will also discuss the possibilities for the Transition Town “awareness event” which we plan to run with Kirklees Environmental Partnership possibly on a Saturday in October. Finally, we will start to address the question “how to start a Transition Community” that has now been asked by people from several local neighbourhoods in the town and its environs.
There will be a couple of copies of the Transition Handbook* (essential, broad ranging and readable) for sale at the next meeting, and also a copy available to borrow on the understanding that it is brought (or posted) back in time for the next meeting.

Transition Communities Meeting Tuesday July 1st
at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1st, at the Methodists Mission in Huddersfield.
We aim to use this second meeting to discuss what support each of you would hope for from the “hub” as you consider initiating a transition community, what our options are generally and where we would like to go from here.
We are also planning an event in the Autumn, for which it would be good to get your input, and it may be that we are able to host a training weekend if enough would be able to attend.
Talk on Transition Towns
June 4, 2008
We’ve been lucky enough to get the chance to host one of the talks that Ben Brangwn is doing during his “Northern Tour”.
He is one of the leading lights of the Transition Town movement and based in Totnes, one of the first towns to be in transition, so if you’ve ever wanted to get to know more about this movement here is your chance.
He’s starting at 3pm with a teach-in for those keen to be able to promote the idea of Transition Initiatives, and then at 6pm there will be food available from “Kitchen Garden Cook”and a showing of “An Incontestable Truth” which establishes the case for Contraction and Convergence.
Ben’s talk starts at 7.30 and there will be time for questions/discussion afterwards.
It’s going to be held at the Methodists Mission,Lord Street Huddersfield HD1 1QA, (10 minutes walk through town from either the bus or train station).
It should be an interesting evening-and it would be really helpful if you could let us know if you are coming – particularly if you are interested in the training session or would like some food.
